Being a physician can be exhausting...
And self-compassion can help!
Coming home weary at the end of a long day with work still left to do at home?
Listening to your inner critical voice that relentlessly tells you that you aren't doing enough?
Going through your day feeling anxious and worried that someone is judging you?
Doubting your decisions and replaying them in your mind (maybe at 3 am)?
Set healthy boundaries with confidence and less guilt. Feel secure in your ability to be both kind and clear when making yourself heard.
Enjoy down-time at home either alone, with family or friends feeling peaceful. Be free of the jumpy anxious feeling like you “should be” doing something else.
Have unshakeable sense of trust in yourself no matter what. This means when you make a mistake or show up with imperfection you know without a doubt that you are still okay (loveable, safe, and worthy).
Make non-negotiable time for yourself that you enjoy without shame or guilt. Believe that this time is sacred and unselfish because it ultimately serves everyone you interact with.
A Six Week Course
What is it?
Self-compassion in a nutshell is treating ourselves like we would a friend.
Most of us treat others much better than we treat ourselves. We tell ourselves things that we would never dream of saying to other people. We show up for our friends in loving and encouraging ways but don't think about showing up for ourselves in the same kind way.
We are harsh with ourselves out of a few misguided beliefs and fears. We are afraid that if we are kind towards ourselves we will:
In fact, the opposite is true! Research shows that those that score high in self-compassionate are:

Physicians who scored higher on assessments of self-compassion were shown to be better off than colleagues who scored lower in self-compassion. In one analysis, self-compassionate physicians, “experienced more positive work engagement, felt less emotionally, physically, and cognitively exhausted due to work demands, and were more satisfied with their professional life than physicians who exhibited less compassion toward themselves in uncertain and challenging times”.

As opposed to other self-care techniques, self-compassion practices can be used on the spot while at work with patients and colleagues
Participation in each live session is highly encouraged but it is understandable as a busy physician that sometimes you can't make a particular class. As a participant in the course you will have access to all the lesson materials in the class portal and you can catch up with pre-recorded video, slides, and exercises for each weeks session.
Yes, this course will likely run again in the summer months. Please reach out through email if you would like to stay updated on when the next course will be held.
Each class will last no longer than 60 minutes each week and the recommended practices outside of class can take anywhere from 5-15 minutes. This course has been specifically designed with busy healthcare professionals in mind and can be integrated into your busy work day.
This specific course is geared towards women physicians who identify as highly caring and also high achieving.
Unfortunately at this time the answer is no. However, I am working towards finding sustainable ways to make this a possibilty for future cohorts.
Once you sign up for the course you'll have access to all the pre-recorded materials, exercises, and audio throughout the scheduled length of the course. The material will be accessible for two weeks after the final live class (Session 6), after which participants will not have access to the class portal. Participants are welcome to download any of the audio or resources that were most useful before the course's end date.
